BSF Eligibility Criteria For Constable
BSF Constable (GD) is a non gazetted officer cadre. Constables are most popular career choice in the BSF. Every year, good number of vacancies are released in the BSF for the eligible candidates.
The eligibility criteria is under age, education, physical standards, etc. Candidates must fulfill all the criteria before applying for the post.
BSF constable Age limit
The age of candidate must be between 18 to 23 years on 1st August. Age relaxation is applicable to the SC/ST/OBC, ex-servicemen and other categories will be provided according to the government orders.
Constable educational qualification
Must have completed 10th from a recognised university.
Physical Standards
- Height:- Male 170 cms & Female 157 cms.
- Chest: 80 cms without expansion with minimum expansion of 5 Cms.
- Weight:- Must be proportionate to their height and age as per medical standards for male & female.
- Relaxation:- relaxation in physical standards for hilly areas.

Medical Standards:
Eyes :- 6/6 and 6/9 for both the eyes without wearing glasses.
Other medical standards includes knock knee, flat foot and varicose vein and should be in good mental and body health, free from any kind of physical defect.
Constable Selection Process
The selection process is divided into six phases
- Physical Standard Test (PST) :- Checked under all the physical standards.
- Document Verification:The checking of original documents of all the qualification.
- Physical Efficiency test (PET):The PET includes race, long jump and high jump. This test is qualifying in nature because it does not carry any marks.

Written test: Successful candidates of PET, will give the written exam which contains objective paper (Hindi and English) of 100 questions with total 100 marks and there is no negative marking.
Medical Exam: Candidates should be mental and bodily fit and satisfy the conditions of medical standards.
Merit List: In the last, the merit list will be drawn including the marks of written exam as per their category.
Eligibility Criteria For Head Constable (Operator) & Head Constable (Fitter)
The age criteria is given as for the posts i.e. Constable & Head Constable.
Educational qualification
- Head Constable :-10th pass with 2 years of ITI certificate in Radio and TV/Electronics, or 10+2 with PCM from a recognized board.
- Fitter :- 10th pass with two years of ITI certificate in engine/fitter/Diesel Mechanic/Automobile/Motor Mechanic from an recognized institution by State/Central Government or equivalent, or 10+2 or equivalent with PCM from a recognized board.

Eligibility Criteria For Sub Inspector (SI)
Sub Inspector is the lowest rank in the Officer in the Central Armed Police forces. This selection process is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The vacancies are filled directly by the recruitment process. This posts are filled by the recruitment process as well as promotions. The criteria of direct recruitment is given as.
The age of applicants should be in between 20 to 25 years of age. Age relaxation is given to the candidates who belongs to the SC/ST/OBC according to the government instructions.
Educational Qualification
The applicants must have done Bachelor degree in the recognized university in any discipline.
Physical Standards
- The minimum height of a male candidate must be 170 cms and for female candidates are 157 cms.
- Those belongs to the hilly areas like Garhwal, Kumaon, HP, Leh & Ladakh, Kashmir valley, Gorkhas, Marathas, Sikkimies, Dogras & NE States is 165 and 155 cms of male and female.
- The height of candidates from scheduled tribes is 162.5 cms for males and 154 cms to female.
- The chest measurement of a candidate should be 80 to 85 cms for general, 80 to 85 cms for candidates belong to hilly areas and 77 to 82 cms for scheduled tribe.
- The body weight must be proportionate to the height of candidate as given by the medical standards.
Medical Standards:The eyes of the candidate should have 6/6 or 6/9 for both the eyes without wearing glasses.
Sub Inspector Selection Process
The selection procedure of Sub Inspector is based on different stages to get the final confirmation of the job. This starts with the Paper I & the other stages are PET & PST.
Those who get shortlisted will give Paper II & the last stage is medical exam. After that the merit list would be drawn. Let’s know in brief about these levels:
Written Examination:
The written test is categorised into two categories i.e. Paper I & Paper II.
Paper I is a MCQ nature of exam where the total marks are 200 & 200 questions are asked. The duration of exam is 2 hours. This exam is divided into four sections where each section is of 50 marks.
Paper II is a subjective question paper where you need to write descriptive answers based on the questions. It is of 200 marks with 2 hours duration.
The exam language is available in both language i.e. Hindi & English. Negative marking is applicable for the wrong attempts in the questions. This is of 0.25 marks. Aways keep in mind of the same while you attempt any doubted question.
Physical Standard Test (PSI)/Physical Endurance Test (PET):
So if you have qualified the written test, then the candidate will be going to the physical standards and then by physical endurance test, it can be vice-versa.
The PET marks are not a big cause , as it is of a qualifying or eliminating nature.Those who will qualify will be giving the Paper II. The PET has the following standards.

Medical Exam & Merit List:
The candidate must fulfill the medical standards in terms of eye vision & should have body and mental health.After medical exams, the merit list will provide you the marks of the written exam & the final selection will be made as per the merit list.
Eligibility Criteria for Assistant Sub Inspector (Radio Mechanic)
The SI radio mechanic trade , the age & physical standard is same as it was for SI. The education qualification required for the post is Matric with 3 years diploma in Electronics / Radio and TV technology / Tele-Communications / Computer / Electrical / Mechanical / Engineering / Domestic appliance from a recognized institution by State/Central Government, or should have 10+2 or equivalent with 50% marks in PCM from a recognized board.
The candidates who qualify for the medical standards must have eyesight near vision for better eye is J-I, J-II, 6/6 and 6/9 high grade. Candidates have to pass the high-grade colour vision test.
Eligibility Criteria For Assistant Commandant (AC)
The assistant commandant is a gazetted officer Vacany & is recruited by the exam. The exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
The chances of direct recruitment is based on the post by 50% (including 10% from SSCO) and remaining 50% by promotion from the procedure Inspector to AC. The eligibility criteria for AC is as follows:
Age Limit :- The age of candidate must be from 19 to 25 years. If you belong to SC/ST/OBC, relaxation is given as per the instructions provided by government of India.
Educational Qualification:
The candidate must be a bachelor from a recognised university or institution. NCC ‘C’ or ‘B’ certificate or achievements in sports or athletics will added an advantage to your qualification.
Physical Standards
- Height :-Male Candidates 165 cms & Female candidates 157 cms is the required height.
- Chest :- The chest for Males is 81 to 86 cms and no chest measurement is applicable for female candidate.
- Weight:- The males required weight is proportinate to the height (Minimum 50 kg). The minimum weight of female should not be less than 46 kgs.
Medical Standards
- Eyes :- For males , the far vision must be 6/6 or 6/9 and near vision be J-I (with or without glasses).
- Females :- The distant vision should be 6/12 or 6/9 and near vision should be J-II (with or without glasses).
- Color vision should be good.
Assistant Commandant Selection Process
The selection process of the Assistant Commander is same as Sub Inspector. There is one big difference in the selection process i.e. Personal Interview. The process is initiated with written exam, followed by PET/PST/Medical exam, Interview and merit list at the end.
Written Examination:The written exam is consisting of the two paper. This is Paper I & paper II.
Paper I is of (General Ability and Intelligence) is of 200 marks contains 125 multiple choice questions (Hindi and English) with the duration of 2 hours.
Paper II
It consists of General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension. This is a subjective paper of 200 marks. It is of 3 hours. The medium of exam is Hindi & English. The question like precise writing, comprehension components and other communications/ language skills will be given in English medium only.
Physical Standards, Physical Efficiency and Medical Standards Tests:
After the written test, the candidates should be preparing for the physical standards, physical efficiency and medical test.This section is of qualifying nature & is not based on marks. The physical standards are given in the table here. Please check the details before you scroll.

The medical test will be done by the medical officers to check whether the candidate is mentally and physically fit and doesn’t have any injuries.
Interview/Personality Test: The candidate who will be shortlisted to the Interview & are declared as unfit for the medical tests will be reviewed by the Review Medical Board on their appeal by Appellate Authority. This section is of 150 marks.
Merit List:After all the stages of selection process, the merit list will be made on the basis of written test & Interview. This will be done after the final selection by commission.
Eligibility Criteria for Assistant Commandant (Technical)
The candidates who are applying for the technical trade must have done B.Sc (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics). As we have mentioned for the rank of Assistant Commander (technical) , after they have getting experience through the Battalion Signal Officers course. The experienced officers works in the upper ranks of communication hierarchy.
