CBI is going to register an FIR in the sting case against Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat. The CBI informed the High Court on Tuesday to this effect. A single bench of Justice RC Khulbe is hearing the case. The hearing in Rawat’s sting case is scheduled for September 20. Earlier, the CBI had requested the court for early hearing on August 21 in the High Court with the information to complete the preliminary investigation in the Sting case.
Actually, in 2016 a private channel showed a sting of Harish Rawat. During this time some MLAs of the ruling Congress joined the BJP. The Harish Rawat government was reinstated after the case reached the High Court and the Supreme Court, but during the intervening President’s rule, on the recommendation of the then Governor, the Center ordered a CBI inquiry into the Sting case.
During the hearing in the petition filed against Harish Rawat’s CBI investigation, the investigating agency made its stand. It said that the preliminary investigation of the case is currently underway. The Central Investigation Agency has the right of preliminary investigation in such a case. On this, while the single bench had asked Harish Rawat to cooperate in the CBI investigation, the investigating agency had to inform the court before taking any action.
