Preliminary Exam Syllabus
Candidates need to know some more information about the exam the exam is also know as CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). This exam is conducted for the Screening purpose only and those who will clear they will get the selection in the Main Exam.
Paper 1
The paper 1 will be of 200 marks and the topics covered will be:

Main Exam Syllabus
The main exam is divided in 4 section they are:
Paper 1: Passing in this exam is compulsory in order to proceed for the further step
- Comprehension
- Passage Writing
- Usage and Vocabulary
- Short Essay Translation from English to the Indian language and vice-versa
Paper 2
- To be done in the language of the candidate’s choice
- Candidates will be required to write an essay on a specific topic and they will be given choice

- The exam will be of 250 marks.

The UPSC Civil Services Exam is led in two phases and those are Prelims and Mains, which are then trailed by an Interview.
Preliminary Exam
- The first exam or Prelims exam consists of two papers of 200 marks each.
- Both the question papers consist of multiple choice questions (i.e. objective type)
- The duration of the exam is of two hours each.
- The question papers will be bilingual which means they are set in both Hindi and English.
- But the questions related to English Language Comprehension skills would be provided only in English.
- Blind candidates would be allowed an extra 20 minutes of time for each paper
Main Examination
- Candidates who will clearing the Preliminary exam stage they will be allowed to give the Main exam.
- The main exam includes English Literature and the candidates need to choose the second language themselves (Only native Indian Language can be chosen)
- The exam is divided in two parts with 300 marks each.
- Paper 1: One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidates from the Languages included in the eighth schedule of the constitution
- Paper 2: This exam is of English Literature
Interview
The last stage of the exam is the Interview and in this the candidates inner ability to handle the situation and how he deal with the sensitive matter can handle. Once the candidates clear this stage they are allowed for the training and after that they will have their appointment letter.
